Columbus takes Manhattan!

Unity Academy 9th graders took a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Thursday. We traveled by subway. Malcolm Johnson and Dave Wedderburn pose for the camera below.

We ate in Central park and played a little basketball. (from right to left) Sunai, Violetta, Elizabeth, Ashley, and Bettina enjoy the sun.

Inside the museum, students found a little alcove with lots of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Below (from the left, back row) are Malcolm, Alex, David, Andre, Chris, and Jaquan. In the front are Jasmine (left) and Ashley.

We found the Temple of Dendur, a shrine to the Goddess Isis which was given to the United States by Egypt after a man-made dam covered it almost completely in water for part of every year. In front of the temple are Elizabeth, Bettina, Sunai, and Violetta (left to right) with Ashley in the front.

The museum recently completed long-term renovations, and looks beautiful.

Ashley and Sunai (left to right) enjoy the sunny back room in the Met, which is filled with stained glass from Tiffany's and beautiful sculptures like the one in the photo.
